According to Microsoft, the certification represents ‘one more important step’ in broadening the integration between Microsoft and the open source community. With ‘Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) Linux on Azure’ certification, Microsoft’s goal is to recognize the importance of open source-based workloads in the Microsoft cloud.
This step by Microsoft and Linux Foundation is a good sign of what’s coming up in the world of technology. IT enthusiasts normally choose one path of technology, either Microsoft or Linux. But as more and more enterprises are no longer relying on technology from a single vendor, the demand of experts having experience of multiple technologies is increasing.
I believe there should be more cross-platform certifications like this one which will help enthusiasts get their hands on multiple technologies. This will also break the barriers of getting labelled as expert of only a single vendor as opportunities get limited to that particular vendor only.
Why MCSA: Linux on Azure certification is introduced
“Currently, approximately one in four virtual machines on Azure are Linux, and more than half of Azure Marketplace images are based on Linux, which creates a great deal of opportunity on the Open Source platform.” – writes Alison Cunard, General Manager, Microsoft Learning Experiences. “This new certification combines Linux administration and Microsoft Azure implementation skills across designing, implementing, and maintaining complex Linux solutions that leverage Microsoft Azure’s extensive features and capabilities.”
