Microsoft Announces New Monetization Options for Developers

Microsoft’s Build 2016 event was full of exciting new announcements. At first day of Build, Microsoft said Windows 10 is now running on more than 270 million devices, being the fastest growing version of Windows. The overwhelming response to Windows 10 is leading developers to create new content.

Microsoft is taking Windows 10 opportunities to a higher level and developers will benefit from this new ecosytem based on Windows 10. Along with other capabilities, Microsoft has announced new monetization options which will help developers earn increased app revenues. Facebook ads and affiliate ads are most notable options among the rest.

New Monetization Options for Developers

Facebook Ads

Microsoft is going to introduce Facebook ads as new monetization option later this year. Developers will be able to choose the type of people they want to reach which will help Facebook to deliver more relevant ads to acquire and engage customers. Developers can monetize through Facebook ads in Windows Store apps using the Facebook Audience Network (FAN) SDK.

Facebook Ads Microsoft Developers

With more than 1.59 billion users, Facebook will surely turn out as one of the best way to generate revenue.

Microsoft Store Engagement and Monetization SDK (Store SDK)

The new Store SDK will integrate capabilities of the Microsoft Advertising SDK with new store services. This will create a single unified SDK available to Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps. The SDK will be automatically updated in customer devices.

Microsoft Affiliate Program Tools

Developers can promote Store apps, games, music or TV shows and earn commission on digital purchases from customers they refer. Four new tools will help affiliates to generate affiliate links quickly. These tools include link builder, enterprise data feed; top content data feed and a group of pre-generated banners to promote top content and specific campaigns.

Microsoft Affiliate Program

Affiliate Ads

In addition to Affiliate Program tools, developers can now earn revenue with affiliate ads from within their apps. After a simple opt-in, apps will automatically display affiliate ads. Developers will receive a commission when a customer purchases any product in the Store via an affiliated link.

Affiliated ads can simply be enabled without re-publishing an app.

Microsoft Advertising

With updated Microsoft Advertising, Microsoft now allows ads to be placed in apps built on C#, C++, and VB. If an app is using Windows ad mediation, developers can select the ad ranking order in addition to percentages. This will help gain more control over which ads are shown in apps in each market.

By introducing new monetization options, Microsoft is right on track by helping developers get the most out of their creations. Feel free to add your comments regarding app monetization in comments.
