WhatsApp Briefly Goes Down Globally and Comes Back Up

WhatsApp, the most widely used messaging app worldwide, recently saw a brief downtime globally. The outage was reported by users from multiple locations including the U.S, India, Malaysia, Japan and other countries.

WhatsApp recovered from the outage in about an hour, according to Downdetector.

WhatsApp’s official Twitter account did not give any information about the outage. Previously, WhatsApp experienced an outage on New Year’s eve – with users around the globe reporting down-time.

WhatsApp, which boasts more than 900 million Monthly Active Users (MTU) worldwide is about to reach a billion mark. Facebook, the world’s largest social networking site bough WhatsApp for $19 billion in 2014.

Recent media reports suggest that Facebook is working ‘behind the scenes’ to integrate WhatsApp into its social network which will allow both services to share information.

WhatsApp recently announced its new business plan according to which, it is ditching its $1/year subscription fee. The new business strategy will make WhatsApp completely free for all users.

After the service downtime, #WhatsApp became a worldwide trending topic, with users complaining bout WhatsApp not working.
