Sunrise Calendar App is Shutting Down: To Be Merged with Outlook

One of the best (and my personal favorite) calendar app Sunrise is shutting down. The makers of Sunrise calendar app have announced via a blog entry that due to shift of focus towards Outlook app, they are not able to work on Sunrise. The innovative productivity app was acquired by Microsoft in February 2015.

“The entire Sunrise team is now working side-by-side with the Outlook team and it’s a thrilling moment for us to work on an app of this scale,” wrote the Sunrise calendar app team. “Unfortunately, as all good stories go, there’s a sad bit to it: we’re not able to support and update Sunrise anymore.”

The free calendar app has not seen new features and bug fixes and has been left in a “lousy state” without updates, according to its makers.

Today, we’re taking on a new challenge, helping even more people be more productive on the go. We hope you’ll be there with us too.

The app will be pulled from iOS and Android app stores in coming days. No new downloads will be possible while existing users will be abe to continue using it till August 31st. After August 31st, the app will stop working, according to its makers.

Sunrise Calendar App” Shift of Focus with Same Goals

The Sunrise team will continue to work on Microsoft’s Outlook app with best features of Sunrise being merged into it. “As heartbreaking as this sounds, we’re hard at work bringing the magic of Sunrise to the Outlook apps, with all your most loved features,” said the makers of Sunrise.

Before acquiring Sunrise, Microsoft acquired Acompli, an email app -in December 2014. Shortly after in February 2015, Sunrise calendar apps was acquired and both teams started working on Microsoft’s Outlook app. By bidding farewell to Sunrise, Microsoft is expected to bring a better Outlook app by merging features of both Acompli and Sunrise.

Different products, same goal: making your day-to-day life easier and more enjoyable to manage.

Being my favorite calendar app, it’s hard to say goodbye to Sunrise. Let’s hope Outlook can provide the same innovative and fresh experience in coming days.
