During my search for an encrypted cloud storage preferably based in Europe, I found pCloud. Switzerland-based pCloud offers features that are useful for personal and professional use, allowing you to store, share, and collaborate on your files. I have been using pCloud to store my photography data and I am enjoying the speed, convenience, and piece of mind if offers.
There are multiple reasons why I mention pCloud at the top of the list of best cloud storage with zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption. Among them, data residency in Europe, speed, no limit on file size or bandwidth, ability to preview RAW camera files and other file formats, and great value for money are the top reasons.
This Valentines Day, pCloud is making its value for money even better. The cloud storage is offering discount on its lifetime plans, bringing the cost down to $122.5 for 500GB and $245 for 2TB lifetime cloud storage. Regular cost for pCloud lifetime plans is $175 and $350 for 500GB and 2TB plans, respectively. For those who prefer to pay a one-time charge instead of subscription model, this is a good opportunity to get a robust cloud storage at a great rate.
One thing I like about pCloud – although some might consider it a ‘con’ – is that it offers end-to-end encryption as a paid add-on. I do want my data in the cloud to be encrypted but I don’t want to trust a third-party company with that. I prefer encrypting my data with Cryptomator – a free and open source tool that encrypts my data before it’s uploaded to cloud. This way, I don’t have to pay for encryption that I don’t use and save money.
There are, of course downsides for using a tool like Cryptomaror, too. I worry about my data being rendered useless due to corruption or glitches in the software. By paying for end-to-end encryption, you can rest assured that your data is always accessible. For those who prefer the latter, pCloud offers Crypto – its encryption add-on – for additional charge of $47.88 per year or $125 for a lifetime subscription.
Without pCloud Crypto, your data is still encrypted server-side as it would be with Google Drive and DropBox.
I find the pCloud Valentines Day promo a good opportunity to switch from monthly/yearly subscription to a one-time payment. Not only it will save me money in the long run, I don’t have to pay for cloud again. There are other less expensive pCloud alternatives like Icedrive. But pCloud has been in the business for long enough to be an established cloud provider.
