Microsoft’s Personalized News App News Pro is Here, Only for iOS

Microsoft has launched its own news app named News Pro. News Pro, a name which sounds pretty armature to me, is a Microsoft Garage project and has been developed for iOS only. In a nutshell, News Pro is nothing but a personalized variant of Bing News, which serves news stories based on selected interests of a user. Flipboard and Apple News provide similar features.

Although a Microsoft app, News Pro is surprisingly not available for Windows Phone OS itself. An Android version is also not available. These users can however, use News Pro on the web by visiting newspro.microsoft.com.

To receive personalized content, a user has to create an account and select topics. News Pro doesn’t allow logging-in using a Microsoft account though. A user can sign-in using either a LinkedIn or a Facebook account. There’s no way a new account can be created.

Microsoft is publicizing News Pro as an app providing news around ‘your work’ every day and probably that’s why a login can only be made from either a LinkedIn or a Facebook account.

The official description of News Pro is as below.

News Pro helps you search for news around your work every day. Fuel your unique interests with over a million topics to choose from. Get informed efficiently by locating the most important and relevant articles each day based off what interests you. Leverage the power of social networks for your daily news. You can sign-in on Facebook and LinkedIn to tailor your daily news highlights to your work experience and interests.

Find articles and topics you didn’t know you needed. News Pro allows you to extend the scope of your daily news updates by suggesting new topics to search based off your current interests and by helping you discover websites where you can read articles that are interesting to you. You can also search for news related to any topic right in the app so you can always be fully informed.

News Pro team has its own Twitter handle and Facebook Page, neither of which has posted any update regarding the official release of News Pro today.

News Pro is currently available in the U.S. and doesn’t seem to be available in all region. It is unclear whether it will be launched in other regions as well as an Android or Windows Phone version will follow.

Users on the Internet, including me, are unable to digest Microsoft’s focus on iOS and Android app development. Even though such projects are from Microsoft Garage, it is still not easy to understand why Microsoft is not pushing Windows 10 on mobiles and why new apps are not developed for its own mobile OS.

Recent notable apps released by Microsoft includes an alarm app called Mimicker Alarm for Android and a selfie app named Microsoft Selfie for iOS.

You can download News Pro app for free from the App Store.
