Microsoft Unveils Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL at MWC 2015

[dropcaps round=”No”]M[/dropcaps]icrosoft has unveiled latest additions to its Lumia series. Stephen Elop, Microsoft’s Vice President, Devices & Services business unit, today took the stage to announce Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL at Mobile World Congress 2015. Both phones will initially launch with Windows 8.1 but will be upgradable to Windows 10 update, which is to be released later this year.

Both models are cheaper addition in Lumia series and will offer 1 year subscription of Office 365 for free. Microsoft also made announcements related to Window 10 and released a “super-lightweight” universal keyboard that works with iPads, iPhones, Android devices, and Windows tablets.

Lumia 640 has 5-inch IPS display with 1280 x 720 resolution. Lumia 640 display bears Gorilla Glass 3.

If we look at the hardware specifications of Lumia 640, it is packed with quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC processor for smooth operations. It has 1 GB RAM and 8-GB on-board memory which is expandable up to 128 GB.

Lumia 640 offers 8-megapixel primary camera with flash. The primary camera is capable of shooting 1080p HD videos at 30fps, not at all bad for a cheaper phone. Besides the primary camera, it offers 1-megapixel front camera for better selfies ad video chat performance.

To power the bigger screen and other hardware, Lumia 640 is packed with 2400 mAh battery.

The other variant released today is Lumia 640 XL. Lumia 640 has bigger screen size of 5.7-inch as compared to Lumia 640. The screen resolution is same as Lumia 640 though, which is 1280 x 720. Lumia 640 XL too bears Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Lumia 640 XL has 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with Snapdragon 400 chipset. To run apps smoothly, there is 1 GB RAM. 8 GB internal storage is available and it can be expanded up to 128 GB using microSD card.

In addition to bigger screen, Lumia 640 XL offers better camera too. The 13-megapixel primary camera with Zeiss f/2.0 lens is capable of shooting videos at 1080p. The front camera is also better than Lumia 640 which is 5-megapixel wide angle camra, which too is capable of shooting videos at 1080p.

Lumia 640 XL is packed with 3000 mAh battery.
