Apple Releases iOS 9.2.1: Download iOS 9.2.1 IPSW for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Apple has released iOS 9.2.1 with under-the-hood improvements. iOS 9.2.1 is a minor update and does not introduce any new feature. iOS 9.2.1 is firft and last installment to iOS 9.

The previous public iOS release was iOS 9.2 which was released by Apple in December last year. iOS 9.2 brought a large number of bug fixes and stability improvements for apps including Safari, Music, Podcasts, Health, Camera and Calendar apps.

Apple is currently working on next major iOS update – iOS 9.3. The first iOS 9.3 beta was seeded a week ago. As a a major update, iOS 9.3 will introduces a bunch of new features including the new Night Shift mode.

This update contains security updates and bug fixes including a fix for an issue that could prevent the completion of app installation when using an MDM server.

As usual, a device can be upgraded to iOS 9.2.1 by following two methods. You can upgrade your device Over-the-Air (OTA) using the Software Update under Settings or you can choose to do a full restore via iTunes using iOS 9.2.1 IPSW. Both upgrade methods are explained below.

How to upgrade iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 9.2.1 through OTA?

The easiest method to upgrade to iOS 9.2.1 is to use Over-the-Air. To proceed, connect your device to Wi-Fi and head over to Settings > General > Software Update and tap Update now. Wait for the process to finish.

How to upgrade iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 9.2.1 using IPSW via iTunes (clean restore)?

This method of upgrading iOS is advanced method and requires multiple steps to be followed.

Step 1: Download iOS 9.2.1 IPSW for your device using the links given below.

Step 2: Connect your device to PC/Mac, open iTunes and take full backup.

Step 3: Press Shift key (on Windows) or Option key (on Mac) on your keyboard and click Update in iTunes.

Step 4: Release Shift/Option key. Browse to the iOS 9.2.1 IPSW file you just downloaded.

Step 5: Select the IPSW file and click update. Wait for the process to finish.

Your device may reboot multiple times during update process.

Note for jailbreakers: If your device is jailbroken, do not upgrade to iOS 9.2.1. There’s no jailbreak available at the moment and upgrading or performing a restore will make you lose the jailbreak. Wait till a jailbreak tool is released.

Update: iOS 9.3 has been released. Upgrades/downgrades to iOS 9.2.1 will not be possible once signing window closes. Make sure to use the latest iOS 9.3 IPSW.
